What is a transitioning hair?

You may have this simple question…

What is a transitioning hair?

Before you learn how to style transitioning hair after washing you need to understand what you’re dealing with!

Transitioning hair is when you start growing your natural texture due to chemicals or heat damage in order to get you curls and kinks back.

That moment you are in a transitioning phase in order to get rid of all the processed or damaged ends.

I mean, who likes dead ends?

surely not me or you!

right?

Do you cut your hair before or after a perm?

Okay so now you know what a transitioning hair is!

Awesome 🙂

But the question you might ask is… do you cut your hair before or after a perm?

You have two options here.

You can cut it right after a fresh perm but your hair will be really short or even not enough if you want to see your length.

The other option is cutting after a perm but not at once, giving it a time to let your new growth grow.

This can depend from weeks to months to even years depending on the length you want to get before the cut.

You can always trim the ends while it’s growing.

But of course you will have to go through some transitioning hair stages.

What are the transitioning hair stages?

What is a big chop for natural hair?

Once you master how to style transitioning hair after washing you will enjoy your wash days!

Then you go ahead and transition, go through the stages and it’s time to do the big chop!

But you don’t really get it right.

So, What is a big chop for natural hair?

Good question!

The big chop is actually when you take your transitioning hair from two different textures to completely natural hair which means officially 100% natural!

Wow, that’s a big move, right?!

In a few words…

The big chop is the act of cutting off all your relaxed, chemically treated or damaged hair while leaving only your new growth.

That makes you 100% natural!

What are some transitioning hair tips?

But Queen I am not ready yet for the big chop!

That’s totally okay dear!

Let’s get into absorbing some transitioning hair tips that will help you better care for your hair while in the transitioning phase.

Here are some extra transitioning hair tips you  will surely find helpful during this journey:

DO YOUR RESEARCH

You can start transitioning by doing a good research on different platforms online.

In our time and age, there are many platforms with so much information.

Youtube, forums, Quora, Pinterest, Facebook groups are some amazing places to find great content and most informative.

It’s not about how much content is out there, it’s about the value it provides you with.

Do your research and acquire knowledge that will make you transitioning journey much easier.

Put a halt to the Heat during your transitioning phase

If you want to start things right you need to know that your natural hair is much better with minimum heat.

I know it’s not that fun to say especially if you’ve been using heat all your life.

You need to know that your hair will benefit from the break.

Take a moment during your research to invest time in trying and learning new styles that does not require heat.

Discover your go-to transitioning hairstyle

When I was transitioning I would try so many styles.

It’s a good thing, you know why?

It allows you to try new techniques in order to keep the ones that work best for your hair and your time.

Because no one has time for endless hours in front of the mirror.

Especially if it’s a summer season!

I went for twists, braids, found ways to stretch my hair in order to put it into a ponytail or a bun (I wasn’t a bun girl back then!).

Detangle gently, ma’am!

It’s easy to rush through your hair when you dont have the needed time but what happens when it’s harming your progress?

Take your time.

Your hair needs gentle moves that’s why I always believe you should wash or detangle your hair when you have the time to.

Invest in your hair and you will see some good results.

1. Be Patient
I know this sounds really easy but trust me, it’s not!

Being patient can be challenging when your hair seems to be growing so slow.

But Just know that all the hard work will pay of as long as you don’t give up!

What are the best products for transitioning hair?

When it comes to products you can use on your transitioning hair I believe you need to try few out but on a nutshell…

What are the best products for transitioning hair?

Bellow are few products I think works great on transitioning hair.

How to style transitioning hair after washing?

My comments for this video

This style is really simple and excellent for transitioning hair.

You need some length for this style so make sure you have it to not get discouraged if it doesn’t come out well.

Another thing is that her texture is towards the 3 type so if your hair is towards the type 4 you might need some extra attention.

The setting mouse is and detangling is important to make sure all the tangles are out.

I love flexi-rods and note that she starts from the base of the neck.

I normally start from the ends so it’s just about preference but starting from the root works really well also!

Next style is this sleek low bun for transitioning hair!

My Observations:

I totally love low buns this time around and a water spray bottle must be your best friend along with a good gel!

Sectioning your hair at the beginning is really important in order to get the products into the right parts of your hair!

(You don’t want to go back and mess it up, girl!)

Water helps a lot in combination with gel so i encourage you to get a spray bottle like this one and use it.

This is really a chic protective style.

I love elegant styles!

You need to start on stretched hair to get her results although you can go with any state hair but kind of stretched.

Sectioning is important and applying some hair moisturizer which helps with your hair moisture game.

Don’t forget to seal with an oil and apply gel to your hairline.

Water is also important for this style so make sure you have our spray bottle.

Note: flat twister.. you need to learn how to get it done! If you don’t know you can check this videos out that explains how to do a flat twist.

Now it’s wash day routines.

It’s best to learn how to properly wash your transitioning hair then how to style transitioning hair after washing.

Note that it’s good to do a pre-poo or oil treatment before you start washing.

Doing the greenhouse effect helps as well.

To be gentle you can also finger detangle your hair before you start.

Be sure to section your hair and also be gentle as possible.

Shea moisture products work well and a detangling comb will be necessary to get rid of those dead hair.

Sectioning your hair with braids is a great option when it comes to washing your hair.

Especially if your hair is long enough.

You want to wash the scalp and just rinse throughout while unraveling the braids.

This wash routine is for those that don’t have time for sectioning and braiding.

Just split into four and wash.

Detangling your hair slowly will help you get less breakage.

Now you can air dry or blow-dry although as I mention best to stay away from heat as much as possible during your transitioning phase.

That’s a wrap guys now you know how to style transitioning hair after washing!

What’s your wash day routine while transitioning?
