This is not common but during winter you should really love your hair the most. Know that it is important to pay attention to your natural hair and make sure that it is ready to combat the cold weather.

During winter I want you to mainly focus on moisture because the cold air can be drying to your natural hair, and this is not good when trying to maintain healthy beautiful hair.

So let’s start by checking some great ways to learn how to keep your hair moisturized during the wintertime.

Use a co-wash Sis!

Now, I don’t know about you but if you are ready to give the shampoos a rest, try co-washing or even better use a cleansing conditioner.

By adding a co-wash to your regimen this winter, you can help combat dryness. A co-wash is milder than shampoo and it provides conditioning properties. Try one out in between your wash sessions.

Give Deep Conditioning Often a try!

If you are natural and don’t deep condition often, now is the time to plan ahead to deep condition at least once a week. The thing is, deep conditioning really helps combat dry hair.

Another way to boost the effect of deep conditioning is to use heat or steam during your deep conditioning sessions. Why is it needed? Heated homes and workspaces can dry out your natural hair, so combat this dryness with extra deep conditioning can go a long way.

Pre-poo your hair to keep it moisturized

I really like to pre-poo my hair all through the winter. Doing a pre-poo treatment can truly help along with your washing systemat some stage in the wintry weather months, it is really essentialbecause in case you pre-poo it can reduce moisture loss earlier than the shampoo method.

To pre-poo, simply apply your favorite oil, leave it on for approximately 15 minutesand then wash it out while you start to wash your hair. this will help save you moisture depletion until the next wash day.

Steam your hair For Winter Softness!

If you are not already doing this, shame on you. I have had a steamer for as long as I can remember and it is my favorite hair tool. Steaming your hair helps to add moisture and elasticity to the hair, which is especially needed during winter. If you do not have a steamer, you can create a DIY steamer by using plastic caps and sitting under a hooded dryer for 15 minutes.

Keep your hair protected against the cold

I know this may be a no-brainer, but keeping your hair protected in the cold is vital. Consider wearing hats with a satin lining to prevent dryness, and always protect your hair at night, so that your cotton sheets do not absorb the moisture and oils from your hair. I know it can be easy to forget when you’re drowsy, but it’s important.

Try to avoid heat as much as possible

At all costs avoid heat styling in the winter. I know that your blowout will last longer in the winter because you are less likely to sweat it out, but you don’t want the dry air to suck out the little moisture you have. Instead of using heat, try protective styling and different roller sets like perm rods, flexi-rods, and Curlformers.

Indoor heating is going to suck some of the moisture from your hair. Don’t help it along with flat irons, blow dryers and curling irons. Winter is an ideal season to practice setting techniques like wet sets, pin curls and wraps, none of which require heat to style your hair.

Wash n Go Less Often During Winter!

it is okay to wear a wash and go throughout the Spring and the summer months, however, it is no fun leaving the house on a frosty cold morning with wet or damp hair.

That is particularly true if you stay in very cold weather because your hair can definitely freeze and break if you move out of doors in the cold with wet hair.

Use an Effective Moisturizer That Works

an excellent moisturizer will hydrate and nourish the hair deeply within the hair shaft. Water-primarily based products are important.   Use any moisturizer which has water as one if its number one factor.  make sure to wash and moisturizer your hair the night beforeso your hair can be dry in the morning.

An effective moisturizer is one that contains water, humectants, emollients and occlusive components. After you have deep conditioned and moisturized, protective styling is the very last step.

Keep Your Hair Covered For Best results

Not only should you keep your natural hair protected at night when you go to bed, but you should also make sure to keep it covered when you go outside in the cold air.  Wear a hat or hood, but make sure that the hat or hood is lined with satin to avoid snagging and breaking due to the harshness of wool and cotton.
