What is the best high porosity hair care regimen?
When it comes to your high porosity hair care regimen I would encourage you to work on improving few things:
- What’s your Hair Moisture routine like?
- Compact Natural hair dryness
- Use Butters as much as oils
- Notice any signs of breakage
- Add protein to your regimen
Let’s break each one of them down:
What’s your Hair Moisture routine like?
I Believe you need to work on getting the right moisture routine.
High porosity hair is known to absorb moisture pretty well but not to retain it.
That means you might have to moisturize your hair often.
Once you find that perfect routine, stick to it!
Compact Natural hair dryness
When there is lack of moisture, dryness comes into the picture.
Have you ever experience dry hair just a few hours (don’t let me even say minutes) of you moisturizing it?
Yes. It happens.
We don’t need dry hair in our lives!
Drinking more water can also help with the dryness from the inside out.
Use Butters as much as oils
Once you moisturize your high porosity hair its good to seal in the moisture with a heavy butter or oil such as shea butter or olive oil.
They are heavy enough to block moisture from escaping from your hair strands.
Notice any signs of breakage
A good way to learn and to practice good hair porosity routine is to notice when you see breakage.
Breakage simply happens when your hair is dry and doesn’t get the moisture it needs.
Also when your hair is not nourished enough it tends to break which leads to different hair struggles we often have.
What are some of those hair struggles?
- Not able to retain your hair length
- Your hair strands are mostly soft or strong
- Tangles easily
- Or broken of ends
Add protein to your regimen
Your hair is made of protein and high porosity hair can be due to damage therefor your strands might be lacking protein.
When you place protein back into your strands you give them the necessary strength that they need.
Monthly Protein treatments work best but if you feel your hair could benefit more protein treatment you should look into light protein treatments.
You can read this for other light protein treatment options.
What about high porosity 4c hair?
Learning how to care for high porosity 4c hair can be a topic of it’s own!
Let’s talk a bit about high porosity 4c hair… If you have a type 4C hair it sure needs moisture most of the time.
Cleansing can wash away your natural oils leaving your hair dry and vulnerable to breakage so to add back the lost moisture, apply a good deep conditioner right after a good shampoo to strengthen and restore full hydration to your curls.
Moisturize and Detangle.
Can the LOC method for high porosity hair work on your hair?
The LOC method is a technique that allows us, curly girls, to keep the moisture in our hair while moisturizing it at the same time.
LOC is actually an acronym of the products you are supposed to be using on your hair and the order in which you apply them.
Here is how you find out what each letter stands for: “L” stands for liquid, “O” for oil and “C” for cream.
That’s why they say… LOC, as in lock in the moisture!
If you have high porosity this method can be very good for your hair.
The inability of high porosity hair to retain water makes it a good candidate for the LOC method.
This will turn dry and brittle hair into soft, shiny and well moisturized hair.
