The Super Simple Homemade Deep Conditioning Natural Hair Guide!
Before we get into the fun part you need to know why deep conditioning is so amazing, here are some great benefits of deep conditioning!
Benefits of Deep Conditioning
Deep conditioning is the practice of giving your hair deeper conditioning than any regular conditioner can. Here is why:
- Deep conditioning is there to condition your hair strands to prevent breakage, repair any damage that you might have experienced, and provide lots of moisture.
- If you properly deep condition your hair, you will experience more moisture which will result in healthier hair.
- Having a balance of protein and moisture Healthy hair is the product of a balance of protein, moisture, and adequate hair habits. Also, healthy hair is shinier, less breakage, less split ends, and more elasticity. Because of its properties, deep conditioning is a necessary must for anyone who seeks to reach their healthiest hair possible.
- Deep conditioners can be categorized by their most dominant quality. They can provide the most moisture, repair chemical damage, or create better detangling sessions to name a few.
Knowing what your hair needs from a deep conditioner, will be your best determining factor is choosing which product would work best your hair needs.
What Ingredients Should Be Used in A Homemade Deep Conditioner
There is no single ingredient that is best for all people with 4C kinky hair, but there are certain kinds of ingredients that are more beneficial than others.
Ingredients should be chosen depending on your purpose for doing a deep conditioning treatment.
As the main culprit to breakage on 4c Afro hair is dryness, it is most likely you will be needing ingredients that help combat dryness.
Dry hair is a lightly damaged condition and in most cases, the causes are due to environmental factors, excess styling and lack of proper care.
It’s also possible that the condition or structure of your hair is causing the moisture to escape, which leads to dry hair.
Best Oils For Homemade Deep Conditioner
- Coconut oil for natural hair growth
- Olive oil for natural hair growth on black hair

Easy Deep conditioning Recipes to try
Eggs and Olive oil
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Olive oil is nature’s conditioner, and these fatty ingredients provide much-needed nourishment for dry and damaged hair.
The quantities listed above are suitable for shoulder-length or shorter hair, but you can add additional yolks and olive oil (1 tablespoon of olive oil per egg yolk) based on the length and thickness of your hair.
Make sure you rinse with lukewarm or cool water — hot water will cause the eggs to cook!
Avocado and Mayo
- ½ avocado
- ¼ cup mayo
- 2 tbsp avocado oil
- Rosemary oil (optional)
Here’s another moisture-rich remedy, for both your dry hair and that overripe avocado you were totally gonna use to make guacamole.
Add essential oils “to taste” so you don’t have to endure mayo-smell the entire time you’re sitting with your treatment.
Aloe vera gel and coconut oil
- ¼ cup aloe vera gel
- 2 tbsp coconut oil
You probably knew about the benefits of aloe vera and coconut oil for your skin. But did you know they also promote long, moisturized, and dandruff-free hair?
As with all the recipes, feel free to adjust the amounts of gel and oil based on the amount of hair you have.
Honey and banana
- 1 ripe banana
- 1 tbsp honey
Bananas are chock-full of biotin, a B-vitamin that is thought to promote lively hair and a healthy scalp.
Mixed with honey, a natural humectant, this super-moisturizing hair mask will help promote hair growth and volume from follicle to tip.
Greek yogurt, apple cider and honey
- ½ cup greek yogurt
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp honey
- lavender oil
Leave it to the Greeks to devise delicious breakfasts that also work as hair conditioner.
Greek yogurt imbues your hair with protein, while the cider vinegar helps to cleanse and detangle.
Honey, once again, helps lock in moisture, and a few drops of a nice essential oil (like lavender) will help mask the vinegar scent while your hair steeps in this luxurious treatment.
DEEP CONDITIONING NATURAL HAIR OVERNIGHT
Deep conditioning natural hair overnight is another great way to add vital nutrients and moisture to the hair.
It will make your hair soft and easy to detangle.
Just be aware of moisture overload so try it first!
Deep conditioners, when used overnight, could cause an imbalance between the protein and moisture leaving your hair weak.
To give deep conditioning overnight a try, cover your hair with a shower cap and leave it on overnight.
In the morning, shampoo with a moisturizing shampoo and follow with your favorite conditioner.
Then allow your hair to naturally dry then style as usual.
How to structure your deep conditioner
This is what you’ll use to give your homemade deep conditioner a creamy consistency.
There are many things you can use for this such as fruit, vegetables, milk/milk cream to try while creating your awesome deep conditioner from home.
Popular posts you might enjoy!
Fruits are great as their water content is high and they will hydrate your hair.
Let’s take bananas, they contain 74% water, plus they are very conditioning for your hair and help in providing some slip to your mixture.
Another great option is avocados as their lipid and protein content will moisturize, condition and help reconstruct your hair.
ADD MILK CREAM/ YOGURT INTO YOUR DEEP CONDITIONER
Milk cream/double cream will make your base very rich in proteins and lipids. It will moisturise, condition, give shine and help repair your hair.
Choose cow’s milk cream or even coconut milk cream, which is that thick white pulp.
Another option could be thick creamy yoghurt.
For adding moisture into your deep conditioner you can use honey, glycerin, aloe vera or panthenol.
For slip you can use oils like coconut oil which penetrates the hair strand, prevents hygral fatigue, keep moisture in and helps prevent protein loss.
Another oil is Olive oil which also penetrates the hair strand but takes considerably more time than coconut oil, so maybe think of adding heat when you apply your deep conditioner to your hair to accelerate the process at it opens the hair cuticles.
More options such as grapeseed, jojoba, avocado, argan, macadamia, castor oil, canola oil, are all good choices!
PROTEINS FOR DEEP CONDITIONING
Your hair can lose protein in different ways and adding these to your homemade deep conditioner helps to strengthen your natural hair
Some great protein source for your deep conditioner are: eggs, coconut milk, avocado, yogurt, gelatin (unflavoured) or mayonnaise.
You can use mayonnaise as it will give you great results.
Eggs can be a bit a challenge at it can leave an unpleasant smell on your hair, but make sure you shampoo and condition afterward or use a few drops of essential oil.
