23 Best High Porosity Hair Products for Stronger Hair!
When we talk about hair porosity there are few key points I want you to understand.
- what is hair porosity
- what does a high porosity hair care regimen consist of?
- What are some signs of high porosity hair
These three factors will play a big role in understanding all we talk about when it comes to hair porosity.
Let me break each down for you.
What is hair porosity?
what is hair porosity is the first question that I had when I came to know about it.
Ever wondered why your hair feels dry even after you’ve washed it?
In simple words, your hair porosity is your hair strands ability to absorb water which equals to moisture.
It can be simply broken down as I mentioned earlier in three categories
High Porosity Hair
According to the porosity test if your hair strand sinks into the bottom of a glass of water then you have high porosity hair.
High porosity hair is often caused by damaging your hair strands which leave lots of openings and in result, your hair sucks in lots of water.
Water and many products get into the strands easily but guess what?
Your hair still feels dry.
Say what? Oh yeah, girl…
Because your hair still cant absorb all that goodness.
Let’s get the normal porosity hair.
Normal Porosity Hair
If you do the porosity test mentioned above and your hair sinks and stops in the middle of the glass of water you have normal hair porosity.
That’s a good thing and you should be thankful about that!
With that being said your hair should be able to receive water and products fairly normally and also absorb them.
Nice one, huh?!
Low Porosity Hair
Have you ever seen some awesome hair products that work for others sitting at the top of your hair?
I’m like, ohhh come on!
Now if you have low porosity hair and you also do the hair porosity test you will find out that your hair floats at the top of the glass of water.
Because your cuticles are closed and they cant really penetrate your hair strands.
How to deal with that? Use steaming or warm your conditioner to help the cuticles open and receive moisture.
Then you seal it with an oil to keep that moisture!

Great, now that we’ve covered that let’s check that is a good basic high porosity hair regimen like.
The hair porosity chart
Sometimes is always good to know few things about our hair strands.
What’s a better option than a hair porosity chart?
Below is a basic hair porosity chart which shows the different types of hair porosity:
What are some signs of high porosity hair?
In a quick view here are few signs of high porosity hair:
- Absorbs too much moisture, but is unable to retain it.
- Looks and feels dull and dry.
- Generally damaged and over processed with torn cuticles (but not always)
- Tangles easily because the cuticles get caught on each other.
- Hair dries quickly.
- Tends to be frizzy.
If you have low porosity hair and want to know about the signs of low porosity hair (I share 14 of them and break them down) check my post on 14 crucial signs of low porosity hair. (opens in a new tab!)
What does a high porosity hair care regimen consist of?
You’ve done the strand test and you find out you’re in the high porosity gang.
fear not, there is something that can be done!
This is a basic high porosity hair regimen you can follow in order to help your high porosity hair respond better to your hair care attempts.
High porosity regimen and Deep Condition
When it comes to deep conditioning I believe we all should be deep conditioning our natural hair.
Your hair porosity level doesn’t play a big role in this.
Generally, it works for your hair!
With high porosity hair is always good to deep condition with a moisturizing conditioner that’s heavier in consistency.
Don’t forget to rinse off the conditioner with cold water which is known for closing your hair strand cuticles!
High porosity hair regimen and heat
When we are talking about high porosity regimen heat may come in.
But because your hair strands could be damaged due to chemicals or even heat this is not a great idea.
I mean, it could make your hair situation worse.
In a quick note, best to find alternative ways to style your high porosity hair without heat.
High porosity hair regimen and Detangling
So this is what’s happening…
Your hair is really sensitive since it has been damaged due to over manipulation.
You should work on improving your detangling method in order to not damage your hair even more.
When detangling it’s always best to cover your hair strands in thick conditioner with much slip.
Using your hands or investing in some good detangling combs is two great options as well.
High porosity hair regimen Protein Treatments
Because your hair strands have been damaged the moisture and tend to escape easily that’s why you need to be protein treating your hair.
If you’re using a mild protein treatment you can do this once a month to keep your protein level in a good point.
If you go for heavier one like ApHogee protein treatment then it’s best to use it every 6-8 weeks.
By this way, you make sure you’re giving the necessary moisture your hair needs in order to function well.
High porosity hair regimen and products
High porosity hair will absorb heavy butters or creams much better than lighter ones.
So I recommend you getting butters, cremes, and puddings when in quest for hair products like deep conditioners, conditioners or even styling products.
Then you want to seal in moisture with a good oil.
