What does it do and why should we keep using it? So today we are talking all about hair grease that grows hair, is it for real?
Is There A Hair Grease That Grows Hair For Real?
Well, I am sure you remember the famous hair greases such as Blue Magic, Dax, Royal Crown, Scalp Conditioner, vaseline!
In one way or another, we all ask kids had a type of hair great into our regimen as a child.
Hair grease is made of primarily petroleum, mineral oil, lanolin, or petrolatum.
One thing you need to remember is that these ingredients are not absorbed by your hair or scalp!
This doesn’t really help your hair growth process when it comes to length or moisture retention (if not used properly).
Why? Because they create a barrier between your natural hair and moisture which causes your hair to become dry, brittle, and eventually break.
When you apply grease to your hair nothing gets in and nothing gets out!
Gbam! That’s where the problem is. When it is applied to your hair before moisture is added there would be some hair difficulties.
Hold on! I know that grease works great for many women because it is a great sealant if you have high porous hair.
But if your hair is not high porous hair then your hair might struggle with maintaining moisture because your hair is notorious in giving up moisture just as quickly as it receives it.
So how can you use grease? If you learn how to correctly use grease it can be effective in stepping up your moisture game.
So does grease grow black hair?
I believe that your hair growth rate is affected by genetics, health, diet, and exercise, and while hair products are very important when it comes to length retention they aren’t directly the reason why your hair is growing.
The main problem you might be having with your hair is that your hair can be growing but you may not see length because it is breaking off just as fast as it is growing.
If your hair grows faster yet another queens hair grows slower but she retains it while mine breaks then that’s exactly what happens to many naturals that see other women’s hair growing yet theirs are still in the same spot!
The answer to this question is…
If grease is used properly it can aid in retaining length and eventually helping you grow longer hair.
On the other hand if not used properly it can result in dry, brittle, broken hair.
How to Use hair grease that grows hair
Hair grease is not for everyone, If you don’t like using it then do you dear, I personally don’t really use grease on a daily basis but I do have some products so I occasionally find ways to use it!
For all my queens that are looking for a more affordable option when it comes to hair care products, grease will do the trick if you use it the right way!
How to use grease effectively!
Here are some helpful tips that will help you better use grease on your natural hair.
Properly moisturize your hair first
Since oil-based products create a barrier on the hair that eventually prevents moisture from getting through your hair you should add moisture before grease.
Water is the best moisturizer, you can mist your hair with water, add your cream, then your oil or your grease to seal it in.
Use it only as a sealant
Use grease only as a sealant, and this should be the last step of the moisturizing process.
Apply only to your hair shaft
When it comes to how to apply grease it is important not to apply to your scalp as it may cause clogging of the pores.
Wash your hair at least once per week!
Hair grease build up is no ordinary build up because lanolin and petroleum are not going to leave your hair easily.
You should shampoo your hair often to remove build-up and follow-up with a moisturizing conditioner.
Use a good shampoo when washing to really remove the lanolin and petrolatum. A shampoo that is too gentle may not be sufficient.

Do not overdo it using grease!
When it comes to using grease try not to put too much on your hair at once or even use it too often.
Sealing your hair with grease will last you a few days, so keep it to a maximum of 2 to 3 times per week for best results.
Seal the ends for increased moisture retention
Although lanolin is a natural, waxy substance secreted by the sebaceous glands of sheep in order to protect the skin and wool from the harsh environment – including dryness.
To get the benefits of hair grease for moisture retention, apply moisture (water) or a water‐based moisturizer first, then your oils and/or creams, and then hair grease.
Use as an anti‐humidity agent to decrease shrinkage, and thus tangles/knots
Petrolatum creates a barrier upon application that prevents internal moisture from escaping while preventing external moisture from penetrating.
Because of this barrier, petrolatum‐based hair grease can also act as an anti‐humidity agent.
Why is this important? Well, decreasing shrinkage can translate into fewer tangles and knots.
After washing and moisturizing your hair, apply hair grease prior to exposure to humidity. There is no need to repeat this process frequently.
Doing so once or twice between washes should be sufficient.
Use it to help with Removal of long‐term twists/braids and to detangle
Hair grease can provide much-needed lubrication to ease the undoing of twists/braids as well as the detangling process.
It can especially come in handy if you have meshing or a stubborn tangle.
With the application of hair grease, a protective film is formed around the hair shaft and allows for a reduction in friction between strands.
Start by Applying it to your ends prior to undoing long‐term twists/braids and prior to detangling.
Do this prior to washing.
