The Ultimate 3c Hair Care Regimen Strategy!
According to what we know, we can say that hair is classified into four types depending on texture and level:
Straight (1A, 1B, 1C)
Wavy (2A, 2B, 2C)
Curly (3A, 3B)
Kinky (4A, 4B)

What is 3c hair?
Type 3c hair has tight curls in corkscrews, that means that the curls can be either kinky, or very tightly curled, with a lot of strands densely packed together.
If you have 3c natural hair then getting this type of hair to blow dry straight is more challenging than for 3a or 3b, but it’s not impossible because the very tight curls are usually fine in texture.
How To Find Out What Type Of Curls You Have
If you want to have a bomb 3c hair care regimen then knowing your hair type is vital!
One of the best ways to find out is by allowing your hair to dry without putting any product on it.
Step out of the shower, don’t touch any product like gel, mousse, curl defining creams or any product at your site.
I prefer to let it air-dry completely then you can them wrap one of your curls around a sidewalk chalk (3a), marker (3b), and pencil (3c) individually.
Whichever item your curl fits the most snugly around is your curl type.
Another thing to know is that your hair could be a combo of different textures so don’t be alarmed if it doesn’t fall into any of these categories!
If you have 3c natural hair then your curls can stay intact and defined even 4 days after washing.
However, your curls are more prone to dryness than the other 3 type curls.
Why? Because the sebum from the scalp doesn’t get to travel down to the very ends.
Taking care of your 3c hair with much love is so important and by time the results from your improved 3c hair care regimen will show!
How to care for 3c hair?
Here is a quick tip when you’re trying to care for your 3c hair and build a 3c hair care regimen: Find products that work well for your 3c hair!
You can try lightweight stylers such as gel-creams, sprays, and even mousses work wonders on type 3 hair.
Simply because 3c curl pattern is not quite as coarse as type 4 hair, products with a heavier consistency (like shea butter or olive oil) may weigh your strands down.
Another thing to remember is that what works for 3a may not work for 3c and vice versa.
3C NATURAL HAIR REGIMEN
You should understand that every 3c natural hair is different because hair texture can vary from fine or medium to coarse, and porosity can make a difference too.
That’s a lot, right? Most women with 3c hair find it sufficient to wash their hair with a moisturizing shampoo once per week.
If you have high porosity hair, you should fill in the gaps by doing regular protein treatments.
I love ApHogee’s Two Step Protein Treatment and it can be done 1-2 times per month for optimal results.
Another thing to mind is a healthy body because it makes healthy curls.
Although I am working on this myself, drink at least half a gallon of water per day.

Step 01. Start by Cleansing your hair
A good thing to remember when it comes to keeping your 3c hair clean by washing and conditioning your curly, coily or kinky hair know that you have to stay away from sulfates.
The bad thing is that most commercial shampoos contain sodium laureth ⁄ lauryl sulfate.
This ingredient is the one responsible for those foamy suds, sulfate is also a very powerful detergent.
Your natural kinky curly hair needs natural oils to remain soft, supple and moisturized.

You should know that when you wash your hair with a sulfate shampoo, this strips your hair of all of these oils.
Sulfate shampoos are great at what they do (remove dirt and oil from your hair) but they also can take out the good out of your 3c hair.
If you cant hair that retains its natural oils and stays soft and healthy, you can dilute your shampoo with water to weaken its potency or do a co-wash.
What is co-wash? It’s is simply using regular conditioner or a cleansing conditioner to clean your 3c hair and scalp.
A good thing about co-washing is that it’s much gentler on your hair, doesn’t cost much, and leaves your 3C curls much softer than shampoo does.
Step 02. Moisture, moisture, moisture
If you want to grow thick and healthy 3c hair then you should know that moisture plays an important role in your success.
Do you really want a better 3c hair care regimen? then know that your hair cannot thrive if it isn’t hydrated!
Try to moisturize your 3C hair once a week and you haven’t been seeing any results, then you will see your hair responding better to moisture.
If you, on the other hand, decide to moisturize daily your hair will thank you for it.
I use to fear water coming in contact with my hair but I found this little trick: try spritzing your hair with water every day, then use a moisturizing cream on your ends daily for hydration and moisture retention.

Beside your daily moisturizing, deep conditioning is one of the most powerful practice you can add to your haircare routine to transform your curls. No joke!
You can deep condition your 3c hair by sitting with a mask or treatment on your hair for 30 minutes weekly under a hooded dryer.
This can turn your limp hair into bouncy and shiny curls.
Want a boost? then try using a deep conditioner with hydrolyzed protein because as protein fills gaps in the hair strand and prevents moisture from escaping the hair too quickly.
Step 03. What about Styling?!
There are so many styles to try out there but if you want a style that will allow your 3c hair to grow then doing less should work best.
I am talking about protective styles! When it comes to styling your 3c hair you should always remember to try these tips below:
- Remember to Moisturize: I’ve already mentioned that 3c curls have a tendency to dry out try to regularly moisturize your hair during any style you try.
- Try styles that don’t require heat: Although you can prep your hair with a heat protectant serum or spray when you do decide to use a straightening iron or a curling wand on it it’s always healthier to avoid using excessive heat on your hair while styling it because at the end it can do more harm than good.
- Stretch Your hair before styling!: You can stretch out your hair by put them up in perming rods overnight or flexi-rods.By this way, you can avoid using any heat on it and still end up with longer and more defined curls for your next awesome style!
MOISTURIZER FOR NATURAL 3C HAIR
One great technique that you can use to keep your hair moisturized is trying the LOC method.
it works for most natural and it doesn’t matter the curl pattern type.
I think doing the LOC method on wash day before styling should work best (then you can do it once or twice during the week as well).
HERE IS HOW TO ACHIEVE THE LOC METHOD:
Liquid first. water is what I’m talking about. You can place water in a spray bottle along with one or two of your favorite essential oils or even add conditioner to your bottle as a detangler. Another great detangler is this leave-in conditioner!
Oil next. In order to seal the hydration into the hair, you need a oil. Some oils, Try oils like jojoba and avocado that penetrate through the cuticle and protect the hair strand from damage.
Cream last. Adding a cream or butter is the final stage in the LOC process. Try experimenting by using a thick cream like this one but if you notice that the product weighs your hair down too much, consider going with a light leave in conditioner, like this one.
3C NATURAL HAIR PRODUCTS
I love hair products but you should know that every head of hair is different, so experiment with various products until you find one your hair likes.
There are some moisturizing shampoos for natural 3c hair like:
As we mentioned above try to avoid sulfate shampoos as they’re drying to your hair.
Another thing to know while trying products: Check if you have the same curl pattern all around your head. If yes then use the same product all the way through.
If not, you can try parting your hair and adjust the amount of product you use for each section (you could use a heavier amount for your 4b hair, and less for your 3c hair).
Protein is essential for 3c high porosity hair because it strengthens and improves the integrity of the strand. You can try this great protein treatment!
It always starts with trial and error
What “works” for you will ultimately depend on your personal preference. Start by asking yourself this:
What matters to you in a style? You should always ask yourself: Do I care about definition more than volume?
It all rounds down to trial and error and finding what your hair likes and what not. If you don’t try, you won’t know!
