Jamaican Black Castor Oil Benefits For Hair Growth | All You Need To Know!

According to tropicisleliving Greek historian Herodotus first documented the castor oil plant in 4th century B.C and called it “KiKi”.

It is to be said that the Egyptians and Kushites roasted them first then boiled them and retained the oil for various purposes. (wow people was busy back then!)

Castor seeds are not native to Jamaica but the name ‘castor’ is said to have evolved in Jamaica after the seeds were imported for medicinal purposes in the 18th century.

The seeds were taken to Jamaican during the time of chattel slavery on the island.

This oil is processed from wildcrafted, organic castor seeds which are 100% Natural.

JBCO oil seals moisture to the hair with a protective coat while when used on the scalp it stimulates hair growth and thickness but still detoxifies scalp.

Awesome right?

JBCO is also known to restores moisture to dry damaged hair and helps prevent breakage.

The advantage of cold pressing is that you do not harm any of the beneficial nutrients.

Be aware that some companies will also use a solvent chemical such as hexane to separate the oil making production quicker and cheaper.

So if you go that route, research and make sure that the castor oil you choose is reputable 100% pure and 100% cold pressed without the use of chemicals.

Jamaican black castor oil gets its distinct smokey roasted smell and darker color by the process in which it is made. Traditionally it is made by
1) allowing the seeds to dry out in the sun
2) roasting them
3) grinding them into a paste
4) adding the paste to boiling water
5 skimming the oil that rises to the top
It can vary in color from a lighter brown hue to a very dark brown. Sometimes you may see particles settle at the bottom of the bottle, which is just ash from roasting the castor beans.

This is a very thick heavy oil.

Now that you know a bit more about Jamaican Black castor oil (I will call it JBCO in some instances) here is all I’m gonna share with you in a quick list!

Cool, Now let’s get into the fun part and learn all about JBCO benefits and growth for our natural hair!

Jamaican Black Castor Oil Vs. Castor Oil

What is the difference between JBCO vs Castor oil?

Actually, the difference is in the method of processing.

You see castor oil undergoes more processing (often commercial) meanwhile JBCO is processed without adulteration in a more traditional way.

Let’s look into three important and major differences between this two types of castor oil:

1. Processing Structure

As we saw above castor oil can be produced by pressing some fresh castor beans which involve no heat ( so-called cold pressed if you’ve heard that term before).

Although some manufacturers use chemicals during the process of extracting castor oil.

In the other hand, JBCO is produced by roasting the beans which result in an oil that smells burnt. (I’ve smelled that too!)

Now if you think about it this type of oil seems much better than the first over processed castor oil.

Let’s move to the next difference.

2. All about the color

If you’ve noticed the regular castor oil is pale yellow in color and has a clear kind of transparent touch to it.

Meanwhile, the JBCO is dark brown or black and in special cases, it can appear even extra dark.

(Which one do you prefer? Leave a comment below!)

3. Oh yeah, pH level’s are a major difference!

The pH level of your castor oil is determined by the processing method that’s used to extract the oil.

What does that mean?

Castor oil is slightly acidic, whereas its Jamaican counterpart, given it contains the ashes of the beans, is on the alkaline side.

One thing that is similar in both type of castor oil is that the health benefits of the two types are similar.

Note that the Jamaican variant has more pronounced benefits, given its unadulterated method of processing.

I guess you already know that JBCO has great benefits for the skin, hair, and health by now.

There are countless numbers of reviews all over about how beneficiary the use of castor oil can be.

I was told that I had alopecia and my hair will never grow back look at God the Devil is a Lie this all is a truly amazing love it everything about it and this is 4 weeks apart. – A miracle in a bottle

It really works bihhhhh best thing I used to grow hair and especially my very thin eyebrows been using it for three months .very satisfied – Bihhhhhhhh

I have suffered from what seems to be a hereditary form of alopecia on my edges for as long as I can remember. For most of my life, I’ve tried to find creative ways to cover it but never really to treat it until now.

I heard about JBCO and was using it to moisturize my skin but never to put in my hair until someone told me to try it. I bought this and here are my results. I applied the oil directly from the bottle to my edges twice daily.

The pictures are from April 6 for the before and May 15th. I will update after 6 months to show the progress. Keep in mind, I’ve had this issue for more than 20 years so if it works for me, it could work for you too. Try it!

Be consistent and patient. (Top before, bottom after) – It’s working(slowly)!!
