I want you to understand the benefits of using coconut oil on your natural hair!
What Does Coconut Oil Do For Your Natural Hair?
Coconut oil is a great all-natural tool in your health and beauty areas, especially for your natural hair.
Here are some of the benefits of coconut oil for your curls:
- It helps stimulate your hair growth without chemicals.
- Promotes scalp health which can help with such problems as lice, cradle cap, and dandruff.
- If you feel your hair dry it helps moisturizes dry hair.
- Adds luster, shine and softness to your hair.
- Prevents hair breakage and split ends, contributing to the overall length of your hair.
- Lastly, it slows down hair loss.
So, How do You Use Coconut Oil On Your Hair
There are many ways you can use coconut oil in your natural hair.
You can add a bit of it into your everyday shampoo or conditioner, for an added boost of hydration when you shower; you can use a little dab on your fingers to smooth down flyaways and split ends, but one of the best ways to use coconut oil on your hair is to make a homemade deep conditioning treatment.
Oh yes, it takes just minutes to mix together and the results will amaze you!
Your hair will never have been so soft, shiny, and healthy so let’s do it together!
Use Coconut Oil As a Protective “Pre-Poo”
Here’s a trick that’s particularly helpful for women with dry or curly hair:
You should avoid the scalp, coat dry hair with a glob of coconut oil an hour or so before hitting the shower.
The oil protects each curly strand from drying out while you shampoo.
Rinse the oil from your hair after shampooing and apply a conditioner as normal. (Note that if you have thin hair, the oil might be too much for you.)
Here are other great ideas to try with coconut oil!
The Easy Coconut Oil Hair Treatment
You’ll need:
- 2 Tbsp organic virgin coconut oil
- 1 Tbsp jojoba oil
- 3-5 drops essential oil of your choice
- A small bowl
How to blend them together:
Go ahead and use coconut oil that is in its solid-state.
If you live in a warm climate or your coconut oil has been sitting out somewhere warm, just stick it in the fridge for a few minutes until it solidifies.
Measure the coconut oil into a small bowl and stir well. Stirring will heat it up just enough to create a smooth, creamy texture.
Add the jojoba oil and keep stirring until the mixture is even and well-combined.
Apply the treatment mixture to your natural hair from roots to ends, paying particular attention to any dry areas.
Then cover your hair with a plastic bag or shower cap, and use a hairdryer to warm the hair a bit.
Leave the treatment mixture on your hair for 15-30 minutes.
Lastly, wash and condition your natural hair as usual. You can use this deep conditioner once a week for the fullest benefits.
How to make a coconut oil detangler spray
Ingredients:
- 1 part Coconut Oil Hair Treatment (see recipe above)
- 10 parts water
- A spray bottle
How to get it done:
Combine 1 part Coconut Oil Hair Treatment with 10 parts water in a large spray bottle. Shake bottle well before using.
After washing and rinsing your hair, spray it lightly with the detangler spray as you comb to help work through tangles. Remember to use a wide-tooth comb when working with wet hair, to avoid causing further damage.
Now you can replace those expensive, deep-conditioning salon treatments with this natural and inexpensive coconut oil treatment you can easily make at home. Just another reason to always keep a jar of coconut oil on hand.
Now that youv’e tried these nice recipes let’s see what else can come out of a coconut oil treatment!
Use it in your conditioner
If you add coconut oil it will make your conditioner even more conditioning.
After saturating your hair with conditioner, add a layer of coconut oil on top.
This oil is occlusive, so it will trap the conditioner’s hydrating ingredients within your natural hair, allowing them to penetrate the shaft longer and more effectively.
You should wait at least 15 minutes or up to an hour before rinsing (the longer you wait, the softer your hair will be.)
Just Leave It In
This will work great if you have thick, dry hair. After you shampoo and conditioner, comb any moisturizing cream throughout your natural hair.
Then, take a quarter-size amount of coconut oil and layer it on top of the moisturizer. Dry your hair as you normally would.
The oil will lock in the moisturizer and help your natural hair stay hydrated for longer.
It Will Make Detangling Less Annoying
If you have knotty hair, run coconut oil over the sections that need a little help. The oil provides a helpful “slip” that makes combing a less harrowing ordeal.
Give your hair that glow!
Instead of sticking a bunch of shiny things in your hair, scoop a few dollops of coconut oil into a spray bottle and spritz your hair for a natural shine.
If you’re working with oil that has solidified, put the bottle in a bowl of warm water for a few minutes so the oil can revert back to a liquid.
Swim cap anyone?
Before you head to the pool or beach, cover your natural hair with coconut oil.
The oil acts as a barrier between your strands and the water, to a certain degree. Think of it as a natural swim cap (or a swim cap that doesn’t make you look like a dork).
Or a Humidity Cap Maybe
To tame flyaways and frizz, rub a pea-size amount of coconut oil between your fingers. Transfer the oil to the frizzy parts of your hair to calm rogue strands.
A little goes a long way!
