The Ultimate high porosity fine hair Guide
How do you know if you have high porosity fine hair? Let’s answer the questions one by one.
How do you know if your natural hair is fine?
Here are some signs that show you could be having high porosity hair:
Your hair is Always Craving Water known as Moisture
You feel your hair is as thirsty as the desert and as drunk as the sea, never staying too long in each state.
Under a shower, on your wash day, your hair “drinks” water very rapidly, but shortly after you finish it can just as quickly dry up.
Yep, this could be a sign of high porosity hair.
Let’s check the next sign of high porosity fine hair:
It Feels Dry
The appearance of dry hair is a given if you don’t moisturize it frequently during the week. Although your hair takes moisture in pretty well it can rapidly feel dry, it needs constant moisture to not look and feel dry.
If you’re not vigilant on your moisture level you can easily end up having dull and brittle hair.
Your hair Lacks Flexibility or Elasticity
Yes, your hair doesn’t seem to have the bounce and movement as other heads of hair you have a crush on.
Chances are you are not moisturizing your hair properly or enough. Dry hair is dull hair, hair that lacks shine because it has little or no moisture.
Consequently, hair that is dry and lacks moisture is hair that lacks movement and elasticity and can easily snap.
Wow, it Breaks Easily
Everything is connected. Because high porosity hair is thirsty, if you don’t supply its needs it will start to feel dry and dull.
With continued disregard or knowledge of your hair’s needs, it will become dry, lifeless and eventually, it will break easily.

When applied, it accepts Chemical Treatments Very Quickly
Now, this may actually feel like a good thing. Just as easily as it takes water in, high porosity hair can as easily take any chemical treatment you submit it to.
Since the cuticle layers of the hair are open they offer no resistance to this type of intervention. Getting a relaxer, dying your hair or doing some highlights is easy, and your results are probably great.
So now that you know the signs what’s next?
What do you do when you have high porosity fine hair?
Try less protein
For healthy hair, you also need protein. For some, a protein treatment or protein-heavy conditioning treatment one or two times a month is a must.
For those of us with finer hair, choosing conditioning products that also contain some protein is key.

BASIC REGIMEN FOR HIGH POROSITY FINE HAIR
Here are a few key pointers you can watch out while you start building your regimen.
WASH & VOLUME
For volume try to wash my hair at nighttime because you can get the best volume when you let your hair dry overnight.
CO-WASH
Co-wash, condition, and detangle in the shower.
Next, you can apply a leave-in such as Camille Rose Naturals Coconut Water Leave-In Treatment right after I get out of the shower.
When applying the leave-in conditioner you can do the praying hands method while applying to each section.
EXTRA VOLUME?
You can try to scrunch my curls at the end. Then you can allow your hair to dry overnight.
Here are some extra tips in order to help you deal with fine hair in general.
Tips for styling fine curly hair
Avoid a long haircut
Long hair is not recommended because it can pull out the curls and make the hair look even finer.
Avoid chemical processes
Fine curlies may want to stay away from chemical processes like thermal reconditioning or straightening.
Without the curl, their hair loses all of its volumes and can look flat and lifeless.
Lift at the roots
Another trick is to place your fingers into the hair along the hairline all around the face and lifting the roots up.
As you do this, direct the blowdryer on the roots to heat them up and add body and lift. Repeat the technique along the part.
Air Dry:
Remember that it is how it dries that sets the hair in its final position. Part the hair where you want the demarcation to be and reach up and under with your fingertips lifting the hair while it dries and pulls it up to give it more fullness.
Those are the tips. If you are still not sure if you have it you can do a simple water test mentioned above.
