Fall in love with your texture

If you want to start of right you need to know what really matters, just fall in llove with your beautiful texture already!

Improving your hair care for natural hair won’t be effective if you don’t really like your hair.

it’s true, i’ve been there… You know how it is when you see someone’s curly hair and think her hair is far better than yours!

Your hair is absolutely unique and so are you so my first tip for your hair care for natural hair would be to fall deeply in love with your hair!

It will return the love back, trust me girl!

Shop with a Purpose

Shopping time….?Happy timeee! Ha, come on! Who doesn’t like going for shopping?

(Raise my hand) I surely do!

But now let me tell you something. When it comes to hair care, if you want to go far you have to be strategic with your shopping.

Buying hair products is something i recommend everyone doing.

Go ahead, try new stuff. See what works best for your lovely curls.

Once you get the right products you want to stick to the ones that worked and ditch the ones that didn’t.

I had few products that i didn’t really use much and happily gave them to my sister to use.

If you don’t like throwing things away give it to a friend that will appreciate it and use it!

Don’t skip your trims

Next hair care for natural hair tip..triming… oh boy! What memories does that brings..

I can’t still remember when i was relaxed.. trimming was the ultimate enemy!

You know how the church prayer points (mostly at African churches oo) sometimes goes like..

“Enemy of Progress. Die.!”

Leave a comment if you have prayed that!

I would love you to check out this 12 benefits of trimming your own hair. It really is a eye opening post.

So trimming is so much needed. Don’t skip it. Do regular checks and if your hair is starting to act strange you can go ahead and learn how to trim your hair at home.

My hair felt better and grew longer when i trimmed as needed.

Follow Natural hair trends

I know… But Queen.. There are so many trends out there!

I didn’t say follow everything that’s happening!!

But you need to follow few of the relevant natural hair care blogs, natura hair forums, Facebook pages or even YouTube channels that will always keep you updated with

The “Know How far to go” with heat

Heat is good, really. If you know how to use it properly it will work for you.

The thing is many of use either don’t use heat at all or abuse it and end up with heat damage.

In order to use it right know what your hair can take and what not. Don’t use the same temperature as your auntie Mary just  because her hair turned out great.

Important hair care for natural hair: Use it with caution!

Place hair in bun while wet and dry overnight for double stretch

If you just came home and you are too lazy for a twisting session or a braid session then do what i do.

Making sure your hair is moisturized and sealed with a oil go ahead and section your hair into two sections.

proceed by doing a single twist and forming a bun for the first section at the right.

Do the same thing for the right section and cover your hair with a silk satic scarf to avoid frizzed hair.

Well done!

The Cold Water rinse secret

Shiiit… come closer.. a bit closer… yes that’s it. Rinse your hair with cold water after you’ve washed it.

What are some of the benefits?

According to refinery29 for this hair care for natural hair tip, when you wash your face, it’s suggested that you rinse with cool water, as the chill contracts your pores, making them appear smaller.

When it comes to your haircold water helps to seal your hair cuticle, making it lay smoothly. A smoother hair cuticle better reflects light, giving your hair the appearance of shine.

New hairstyle, new you!

yes, I’m guilty of doing this. I always like sticking to what works but you know what? I’ve noticed a boost in confidence and renewal whenever i try a new hair do.

It get’s boring when you do the same thing over and over again, do you feel me?

For this to work you need to know what are some styles that works for your face and come up or do a Pinterest search on related styles.

You will be amazed to find out how many styles you’ve been missing out!

Make Deep Conditioner you closest friend!

It has been said, over and over yet i can’t skip it from this hair care for natural hair tips and tricks, deep conditioning.

You must have been familiar to the saloon visits your mom use to take you when you was a little girl.

They applied the deep conditioner and you hopped into the dryer. (If you don’t have a deep conditioner i got you girl, here are some amazing deep conditioners to try and they are under 15$)

That’s how important it is now. Just that having natural hair reduces the risk of excessive hair breakage but it doesn’t eliminate it.

So be consistent with your deep conditioning routine. Your hair will thank you!

Sleep with a satin scarf or bonnet

Going to bed with a bun is great but why not go further and protect your hair with a satin scarf?

Do you want to wake up in a frizzed hair zone? Nope, me neither!

Amazon has great deals on satin scarfs or hair bonnets you can get in affordable prices.

Invest in your hair health!

Lock the moisture with a oil

Yep, You did everything perfect. Washed, deep conditioned , detangled and applied your leave-in along with a styler.

Good job girl, but wait! What will happen to all that moisture?

You need to seal it with that oil. You can go for Olive oil, Castor oil or even coconut oil! These are great choices for sealer oils.

Keep that moisture in girl!

Blow dry on low heat

Yes it’s winter and your hair has still not dried up! What do you do? grab that blow dryer that’s looking at you all this hours and get your hair popping!

Not a bad idea, but i suggest you go smart with the settings.

If your blow dryer has cooler settings use that and let your hair dry safer.

Get a water base moisturizer

Is your Hair moisturizer really moisturizing your hair?

I Love this hair care for natural hair trick: One little trick you can do is to quickly check the ingredients of your moisturizer, if water is among the first (actually if it is first) then you want to get that one.

Try the pineapple method at night or re-twist!

Going to bed without doing a single thing to your hair will only leave you with a hot mess in the morning!

oh yes, it’s a Saturday night.. i feel tired.. Tommorow in need to look fly for church but i feel so lazy to do my hair.. what do i do?

Gather courage and grab that moisturizer, braid or twist my hair and get to bed.

Determination is powerful. We all need a little push here and there!

So, let me push you… !

Use perm rods at the end of your twists or braids

Perm rods are a great  way of curling your ends. This will help those that are transitioning or trying a twist/braid out style.

I have done it and my ends seem to blend better when they are curled up and i can say they look bit more stretched!

For stretched hair use butters over curl enhancing creams

If you are like me then you like to see your hair length.

Try using butters over curl enhancing creams. they tend to help you hair stretch better and what i’ve notice is when my hair is stretched it behaves better.

Apply them after wash and dry overnight. Air dry is much healthier over heat.

Massage your scalp with castor oil at night for increase of blood flow

One great benefit of scalp massages is that they are really calm and relaxing at the same time.

Your blood flow will increase while doing it and if you add castor oil it can boost your hair growth!

I have tried JBCO and it also is a great sealer plus i saw some improvements in the thickness of my hair.

Give scalp massages a try but be strategic with it.

I used to do them before i would go to bed, start with a scalp massage, followed by moisturizing and sealing and end with a satin scarf!

You can’t go wrong

Strengthen your hair with Protein!

Do a protein treatment every 6-8 weeks to strengthen your hair. Our hair is made of protein and applying protein into your hair only helps it get stronger.

According to liveabout if you have any of these signs, try a protein treatment and follow a regular protein regimen right away:

  • Loss of elasticity – Hair in good condition can stretch under normal conditions without breaking.
  • Serious damage – When hair has been overprocessed with chemicals, it can feel and look like seaweed when it’s wet. When dry, it may feel like a rough Brillo pad.
  • Severe breakage – When your hair breaks due to weakness, you’ll find strands of it everywhere; on your pillow, on the back of your seat, on your shirt, on the bathroom floor.

Shampoo in sections

Okay hands down, shampooing your hair in sections really helps you to break the process down and make the washing routine easier.

If you have thick hair or a lot of hair then you want to try sectioning your hair using wash hair clips that will help you wash each sections at a time.

I’ve tried it and it has saved me a lot of time.

Start eating healthy and consume fruits, veggies, healthy fats
